Do you experience?
- Chronic headaches
- Balance problems
- Otalgia (ear pain)
Did you know that these symptoms may be related to a temporomandibular joint problem?
More and more patients are reporting temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems. Unfortunately, some are confused and frustrated by the confusion and the various treatment options and approaches proposed to them. Others experience TMJ-related symptoms, but are unsure of the cause much less which professional to turn to for help.
TMJ problems have many causes and often involve multiple factors. The most common causes are:
- developmental abnormality
- bruxism (teeth griding)
Aggravating factors also play a role, such as stress, arthritis, alcohol, stimulants and many more.
Despite the high prevalence of TMJ, only a minority of people with the problem become symptomatic. The most common symptoms include:
- muscle pain or tension
- joint noises on opening or closing the mouth
- frequent headaches
- pain on palpating the joint
- difficulty in opening the mouth
- a sudden change in occlusion (the way the teech close)
At the Centre Dentaire De La Gare, we know that to simply interpret signs and symptoms is often inconclusive, misleading and insufficient to reach a clear diagnosis leading to an effective treatment choice. For that reason, we use only the best diagnostic and imaging tools to ensure that our patients receive the best service.
