The final set of teeth
Once completely grown, the permanent teeth comprise 32 teeth, 8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars and 12 molars, including 4 wisdom teeth. The baby teeth are usually fully replaced by adult teeth around the age of 12-13 years old, except for the wisdom teeth, which erupt at around 16-18 years old.
Dental agenesis
A great number of patients have dental agenesis, which means their set of adult teeth is incomplete. This condition can affect one or more teeth, most often wisdom teeth, lateral incisors, and premolars. In the first two cases, the primary tooth may remain in place.
Experts at the Centre dentaire de la gare mention that a permanent tooth growth could be impeded by the lack of space, which could lead to teeth malocclusion or crowding.
