GUM DISEASES SUCH AS GINGIVITIS OR PERIODONTITIS ARE THE TWO MOST COMMON DENTAL CONDITIONS IN ADULTS.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is a minor inflammation of the gums that can heal easily. It is usually caused by poor dental hygiene.  Most of the time painless, gingivitis is characterized by bleeding of the gums when brushing or flossing.

Several patients also mention that their gums are red and swollen. Although gingivitis isn’t dangerous, it should not be taken lightly as it can lead to periodontitis if not treated.

Periodontitis

Periodontitis is caused by specific bacteria forming inside the periodontal pockets, which gradually infects the tissue surrounding the teeth.  It can be increased by the presence of systemic diseases, the intake of medication, and other genetic factors.

When found early on, periodontitis can be easily treated, but if it reached an advanced stage (for example, deep periodontal pockets, loose teeth, etc.), treatment may be more complex.

That is why it is important to not underestimate your gums health and talk to a dentist at the Centre dentaire de la gare if you have one of the symptoms mentioned above.
