Recommandations

When your child’s primary teeth start erupting, here are some recommendations from your dentists at the Centre dentaire de la gare to soothe the pain:

  • You can gently massage the gums with a finger or using the back of a cold spoon.
  • A toothbrush is an excellent teether.
  • If the pain persists, your dentist, pharmacist or doctor will suggest over-the-counter medication to relieve the pain.

Here is what we also recommend AVOIDING:

  • Massaging your child’s gums with pain medication, this latest could swallow it.
  • Giving them teething biscuits as they may contain added or hidden sugar.

Never underestimate fever

Experts at the clinic would like to clarify that under no circumstances should you underestimate your child’s fever. Unlike what most people think, fever and illness are NOT a result from new teeth erupting. If you notice changes in your child’s body temperature, contact your doctor immediately.

Unlike what we usually hear, new teeth eruption DO NOT make babies sick.

Did you know that your child’s primary teeth set would be complete at around 2 or 3 years old? The full set has 20 teeth!
