Main causes leading to gum grafts
Sometimes used to improve the look of a smile, this procedure is usually recommended for patients who want to stop the progression of gingival recession or to cover an exposed tooth root. In the latest case, patients will be relieved from the pain caused by tooth sensitivity to cold and heat.
In some cases, we may perform gum grafts to patients who were prescribed braces or dentures.
How is a gum graft performed?
A gum graft is a simple surgical procedure performed under local anesthetic. It is relatively painless for the patient.
Tissue is taken from a selected area (often the palate) to fix it to the area to be treated (gum) with stitches.
